Overview
CryptoSnap helps you track crypto transactions, portfolio value, profit/loss, allocation, performance, exchange exposure, coin price history and news, and a home-screen portfolio widget.
Your transactions never leave the device. CryptoSnap has no account and no sign-in; prices and news are the only things fetched from the internet.
Unlocking the app
CryptoSnap asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode each time it launches, before showing any portfolio data. This is always on — there is no setting to switch it off.
If authentication fails, tap Authenticate to try again. On a device with no passcode set, the app opens normally.
Portfolio
The Portfolio tab shows:
- Total portfolio value.
- The display currency selector.
- Invested amount.
- Profit or loss, in money and percent.
- Transaction list.
- Short usage hints for editing, deleting, and opening charts.
Use the currency selector to switch the display currency between EUR, USD, and your configured third currency. Everything on the screen, including each row, is converted immediately.
Each transaction row shows the coin, the quantity, a small 30-day price trend line, the current value of that holding, and its profit or loss. A row shows "No price" when no live price is available for that coin yet, and "Loading…" while prices are still arriving.
Tap a transaction row to open the coin price-history screen.
Each transaction row also has visible edit and delete buttons. The delete button asks for confirmation before removing the transaction.
Swipe actions
- Swipe right to edit.
- Swipe left to delete.
Adding a transaction
Tap the plus button in the top-right of the Portfolio tab.
Enter:
- Buy or Sell.
- Coin. Tap Choose coin to open the picker: the most traded coins are listed, and Search all coins… finds any coin by name or symbol.
- Amount.
- Currency (EUR, USD, or your third currency).
- Price per coin.
- Exchange fee.
- Exchange (optional).
- Date.
CryptoSnap calculates the total automatically: amount × price per coin, with the fee added on a buy and subtracted on a sell. The exchange rate of the entry currency is stored with the transaction, so past trades keep the cost they actually had rather than being re-converted at today's rate.
Amounts can be typed with either a comma or a dot as the decimal mark, and with grouping separators.
Tap Save in the top-right to store the transaction. Save stays unavailable until a coin, a positive amount and a positive price per coin are entered.
Editing a transaction
Tap Edit on the transaction row, or swipe right and tap Edit.
You can change:
- Buy or Sell.
- Amount.
- Currency.
- Price per coin.
- Exchange fee.
- Exchange.
- Date.
The selected coin itself cannot be changed after creation. Delete and recreate the transaction if the wrong coin was selected.
Tap Save changes in the top-right to apply changes.
Price history
Tap a transaction to open the coin history screen.
This screen shows:
- Price chart, with a range selector for 1M, 3M and 1Y.
- Entry-price marker.
- Current price.
- Your entry price.
- Profit/loss percentage.
- Date range.
- Relevant coin news, on builds whose CoinGecko plan includes the news endpoint.
- "Data provided by CoinGecko", linked to their site.
All three chart ranges are available in this version. When paid plans go live, 1M stays free and 3M and 1Y become part of CryptoSnap Pro; a caption on this screen will say so.
Performance
The Performance tab has five sections, selected by the chips under the title.
Summary shows a portfolio health check:
- Portfolio value in the display currency.
- A risk/concentration score, with the overall profit/loss percentage beside it.
- An allocation ring splitting the portfolio between Bitcoin, altcoins, and stablecoins.
- Diagnostics: invested capital, profit/loss, max drawdown, the biggest risk contributor (the position furthest underwater), and the top contributor (the position furthest ahead).
The other sections:
- Allocation: share of portfolio value by coin.
- Attribution: contribution from profitable positions and unrealized losses. Both are expressed in percentage points of invested capital, so the two add up to the profit/loss percentage shown elsewhere.
- Drawdown: worst peak-to-trough movement for current holdings over the period named in the footer, plus a 3-month price development chart of your holdings indexed to 100. Coins with no usable history are listed as excluded.
- Exchange: current portfolio value grouped by exchange.
Performance uses your current holdings and the latest available prices. Positions without a live price are excluded from current portfolio value but still counted in invested capital, and the Summary says so when that happens.
The drawdown figure replays today's holdings over past prices, so buying or selling during the period does not register as a rise or a fall. It is a statement about how the coins you own move, not about what your account balance did.
Widget and Siri
CryptoSnap includes a home-screen widget that shows portfolio value, invested amount, and profit/loss in the selected display currency.
The widget updates after price refreshes and when the display currency changes. If no portfolio snapshot has been written yet, open the app once so CryptoSnap can refresh prices and publish the latest values.
Siri and Shortcuts can also read the same portfolio snapshot for current value and profit/loss.
Settings
Settings has three sections:
- Currency: choose the third display currency from 18 options. EUR and USD are always available.
- Backup: create a backup, or restore from one.
- Pro: what this version includes, and what Pro adds later.
Backup
In Settings, open Backup and tap Back up transactions. CryptoSnap exports a JSON backup of your transactions using the iOS share sheet. The file is kept up to date as transactions are added, edited and deleted, so it is ready the moment the screen opens.
Keep backups somewhere safe, such as iCloud Drive.
Restore
In Settings, open Backup, tap Restore from backup, and select a CryptoSnap backup file.
CryptoSnap validates the backup first, then asks for confirmation before replacing existing transactions.
Restoring replaces the current transaction list with the contents of the selected backup.
Free and Pro
Everything in this version is free: unlimited transactions, live prices in three currencies, the widget, the full Performance tab, all chart ranges, the full drawdown window, and backup.
Purchases are not available yet. When they are, tracking stays free and Pro adds a weekly portfolio review, a longer max-drawdown window, and extended chart history (3M / 1Y). Nothing you have today is taken away.
Troubleshooting
If a saved transaction does not appear
- Confirm a coin, a positive amount and a positive price per coin were entered.
- Close and reopen the app.
- If using a simulator or an older crash build, delete and reinstall the app once, then restore from backup.
If "Portfolio unavailable" appears at launch
Do not delete the app — your transactions are still on the device. Update to the latest version or contact support.
If news does not appear
- News is not available in every build. Where it is not, the section is hidden rather than shown empty, and the chart appears on its own.
- CoinGecko may be rate-limiting requests; the screen says so and the request can be retried in a moment.
- There may be no recent news for the selected coin.
If a chart or a row's trend line is missing
- CoinGecko may be rate-limiting requests. Wait a moment and reopen the screen.
- Very new or thinly traded coins may have no price history.
If the widget is empty
- Open CryptoSnap once and wait for prices to refresh.
- Check that the app and widget use the same App Group-enabled build.
